The Paratroopers with the War paint on their faces are members of the “Filthy Thirteen”. These men were the inspiration for the 1967 war film “The Dirty Dozen” starring Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson among others.
The name “Filthy Thirteen” came about due the men only washing and shaving once a week and never cleaned their uniforms.
